I used watercolor to paint her

I Want to express, art journaling with Dina Wakley Media

The aim of art is to represent not the outward appearance of things, but their inward significance. ~Aristotle
Create a piece of art that shares with us your “why.” Why do you create? What compels you? A new challenge on the Ranger Ink Blog

I create because I want to express my feelings and emotions through my art. There's a need in me to do this everyday, to try new things and challenge myself!

I used her awesome mixed media journal to create a page using DWM paints and stencils. The pages in Dina's journal are scrumptious weather you use watercolors or acrylics the paper is ready!

I started by applying ocean, turquoise and white with a brayer
Then I added different Stencils words, Viney and scribble faces. You'll notice that I flipped it and made a full face. I love the expression in her eyes

Here are the challenge rules!
Challenge Rules:
  • We will announce monthly challenges on the Ranger blog on the third Thursday of each month.
  • Use at least one Dina Wakley Media product in your project. If your product is not obvious (like paint), please list the colors you used.
  • You can make anything you like—a card, an art journal page, a tag, a canvas, anything!
  • Interpret each challenge any way you like. You can be literal or you can use it as a springboard and see where it takes you. Let the challenge inspire you and stretch you.
  • Try to journal on your piece. Write your thoughts about each prompt. You can write a little or you can write a lot, but do your best to incorporate your thoughts and feelings into the piece.
  • When you complete a challenge, please share it on your blog and social media (Instagram/Facebook) with the tags #showusyourMEdia and #rangerink.
  • We will do two random drawings each month for a prize. We will search the hashtag #showusyourMEdia on Instagram for one winner, and then on Facebook for the second winner. To be clear, you must use the hashtag #showusyourMEdia on either Instagram or Facebook in order to show up in the search and to be eligible to win. You have until the third Wednesday of each month to complete the previous month’s challenge.
  • We will announce the previous month’s winner AND the new challenge on the third Thursday of each month.

Cityscape Suburbia Tim Holtz dies

Hi everyone! It's been a while since I do a full tutorial on my blog so here's one that'll make for all the ines I've missed. Inspired by the graffiti streets in Melbourne Australia I've used recycled Ice Resin wood spools to make a cityscape!
For this you'll need yummy Dylusions colors, Ranger watercolor paper and Tim Holtz dies
Ck out how the height of the buildings correspond to the spools!
Prepare your paper, ive used this Instagram photo as my inspiration

Here's how it looks on paper

Now I'm ready to die cut
So many yummy colors!
You'll use the distress collage glue to add the to your spools and to glue tiny frame windows and such
They fit perfectly on a Relics and Artifacts wood canvas, now it's time to prep it
Ive also added more buildings inside
For the trees I went with distress oxide
Then I gave them a coat of ice resin to seal them on top
Then they were ready for assembling
The tiny clothes 😍

I do hope I get to visit Melbourne some time in the meantime I had a lot of fun art traveling!

Inspired by Iceland Collaboration

Artist Tina Walker created a Facebook group of artist to challenge ourselves to be inspired by the magic of Iceland and its magnificent Northern Lights!
I jumped in because it's in my bucket list to see them!
I took a metalsmith class last semester and day one I drew what I wanted for my final project. Little did I knew the way the class would take me. But I achieved the focal piece just like I envisioned! This was challenging and fun!
Focal piece was created after sawing the brass and filled with Ice Resin and Ice Resin tints to represent the Aurora Borealis
I hammered the stars around my sky
And here's my initial sketch
